creating literary spaces

specifically for boys

We need to create literary spaces and discourses that are specifically for boys in order for them to feel welcomed into the literary community. This might look like creating all boys book clubs, in which the reading materials are centered around male protagonists and masculine interests, like sports and fantasy worlds. These literary spaces might also come in the form of a boys book shelf in a classroom, on which books recommended for boys are placed. This allows boys to feel more welcome in the language arts classroom and literary community.

what are the implications if a girl fits into these literary spaces? what does this imply about her femininity?

does this confine boys into believing they have to be a certain type of reader in order to be masculine? what are the implications regarding the validity of masculinity that falls outside of these parameters?
